Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, events, retail, finance, technology and tourism, with luxury hospitality remaining an important employer. The culture combines Chinese traditions, Cantonese food and festivals with international influences and a fast, highly professional working environment. Lifestyle is energetic: excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, mountains, beaches and nearby islands make it easy to balance city life with outdoor activities. Rent is high, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central Kowloon, so many workers share accommodation or live in the New Territories. Overseas employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa under the General Employment Policy and must meet qualification, experience and salary requirements; dependants may usually apply for visas as well. Secure a written offer, confirm accommodation and benefits, and prepare documents before relocating.
