Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city with strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare, and professional services. Its culture blends Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences, reflected in its languages, festivals, neighbourhoods, and food. Life is convenient and safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, shopping, beaches, parks, and lively dining areas, although housing and everyday expenses can be high. Foreign employees generally need employer-sponsored permission to work, commonly an S Pass or Employment Pass, depending on qualifications, salary, and experience. The employer normally submits the application, while approval is subject to government requirements and quotas. New arrivals should budget for accommodation deposits, arrange medical insurance where appropriate, and check employment terms carefully. Singapore’s warm, humid climate suits outdoor living, but newcomers should be prepared for frequent rain and year-round heat.
