Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly international city with major opportunities in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, tourism, finance, retail and technology. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences, and English is widely used in professional workplaces, although Cantonese is valuable for daily life. The lifestyle is energetic, convenient and urban, with excellent public transport, diverse dining, hiking trails, beaches and islands nearby. Housing is expensive, particularly in central districts, so many workers choose shared accommodation or live in the New Territories. Overseas employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer; applicants must show relevant qualifications and experience, and approval is not automatic. Employers may assist with visa paperwork and relocation. New arrivals should budget for deposits, transportation, healthcare and living costs before starting work.
