Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago, with major employment hubs on Java and Bali and resort opportunities in Lombok, Batam, Bintan, and other eastern islands. Engineering managers can find work in international hotels, resorts, commercial buildings, hospitals, and property-management companies. Bali offers a relaxed, tourism-focused lifestyle but higher housing costs in popular areas; Jakarta and Surabaya provide larger professional markets and more urban living. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, religious awareness, and respectful workplace relationships. Foreign hires normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and stay permit, commonly arranged through the hiring company; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocation planning should cover accommodation, healthcare, local transport, taxation, document legalization, and family arrangements. Conditions and visa rules change, so confirm requirements with the employer and Indonesian immigration authorities.
