Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, with major hospitality opportunities in Bali, Java, Lombok, Batam and other resort destinations. Bali offers the broadest range of luxury hotel and restaurant jobs, a large expatriate community and a relaxed beach lifestyle, although popular areas can be busy and expensive. Jakarta and other cities provide stronger corporate opportunities and urban amenities. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, family and religious traditions, so respectful behaviour and awareness of local customs are important. Living costs vary considerably, with Bali resort areas generally costing more than smaller towns. Foreign chefs normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit, commonly arranged through the company before employment begins; visa and immigration rules can change. Candidates should confirm permits, accommodation, benefits, tax responsibilities and relocation support directly with Shangri-La.
