Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and international business. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, Chinese festivals and food with a highly international lifestyle. Life is fast-paced, convenient and urban, with excellent public transport, shopping, nightlife, hiking and beaches. Housing can be expensive, particularly in central districts, so many employees live in Kowloon or the New Territories and commute by MTR. Foreign nationals generally need an approved employment visa before starting work; the employer normally supports the application, while eligibility depends on qualifications, experience, salary and proof that the role cannot easily be filled locally. Applicants should confirm visa sponsorship, accommodation, working hours and benefits directly with Shangri-La. Hong Kong has humid summers, mild winters and occasional typhoons.
