Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city with a dense urban core, excellent public transport and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Hospitality, engineering, finance, retail, technology and professional services provide substantial employment opportunities, while hotels regularly recruit skilled technical staff. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, and English is common in business and luxury hospitality. Housing is expensive, but public transport is efficient and many employees live in Kowloon or the New Territories to reduce costs. Overseas applicants generally need an employment visa sponsored by the employer, normally under the General Employment Policy, and must show suitable qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may qualify for accompanying visas. Before relocating, candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, insurance, work hours and visa support directly with Shangri-La.
