Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, finance, technology and international business. Hotel employees work with diverse guests and colleagues, and English is widely used in the workplace. The culture combines modern urban living with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in food, festivals and neighbourhoods. Public transport is efficient, safe and extensive, while accommodation, dining and childcare can be relatively expensive. Singapore is hot and humid throughout the year, with frequent rain. Foreign applicants generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and government requirements. Employers often explain pass applications, but candidates should confirm current rules with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. Plan carefully for housing, healthcare, banking and relocation costs.
