Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and corporate services. Major hospitality locations include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Malacca and coastal resort areas. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed beach and island communities, with generally affordable food and transport compared with many international destinations. Foreign employees normally require an employment pass sponsored by the hiring company; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and role, and approval must be obtained before starting work. Relocating staff should budget for accommodation, medical cover, transport and deposits, while checking local tax, work-permit and immigration rules. Malaysia’s tropical climate is warm and humid year-round, with regional monsoon seasons.
