Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance, healthcare and logistics. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally safety-conscious, with excellent public transport, varied food, shopping, parks and efficient public services. Housing and daily expenses can be high, especially near central districts, so budgeting is important. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass: the Employment Pass is generally for professional roles meeting salary and qualification criteria, while the S Pass is commonly used for eligible technical and associate-professional positions, subject to quotas and levies. Employers usually guide successful candidates through the application. Bring relevant certificates, references and medical documents, and confirm accommodation, insurance, shifts and relocation costs before accepting an offer.
