Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, wellness, food and beverage, healthcare, technology and finance. Its culture is multicultural, combining Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, with English widely used at work. Lifestyle is convenient and safe, supported by excellent public transport, shopping, dining and healthcare. Accommodation can be expensive, so employees should compare shared housing, staff accommodation and suburban rentals before relocating. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation. The employer normally submits the application, and approval is required before starting work. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, deposits, medical checks and daily expenses. Singapore has a tropical climate, so expect year-round heat, humidity and frequent rain.
