Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state and a major centre for hospitality, tourism, finance, technology and events. Job opportunities are strongest in hotels, restaurants, convention venues, attractions, retail and business services, with English widely used at work. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced, combining Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences. Singapore offers excellent public transport, safety, healthcare, dining and entertainment, although rent and daily living costs can be high. Weather is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rainfall. Foreign hires generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, experience and government approval. Candidates should confirm current Ministry of Manpower requirements before relocating. Employer-provided accommodation is uncommon, so newcomers should budget carefully for housing, deposits, transport and insurance.
