Destination Guide

Indonesia offers culinary opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok, Sumatra, and other islands, particularly in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, and developing tourism destinations. Bali is the most international and offers a strong hospitality community, but living costs and traffic can be high. Java, including Jakarta and Surabaya, provides larger urban job markets and better access to suppliers and services. Indonesian culture values respect, community, modesty, and polite communication; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is helpful. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to relaxed beach or resort life. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and the appropriate work permit and limited-stay visa before starting work. Requirements can change, so candidates should confirm details with Shangri-La and Indonesian immigration authorities. Relocation planning should include accommodation, healthcare, banking, tax obligations, local transport, and dependent arrangements.
