Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago offering varied opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants and tourism, particularly in Bali, Java, Lombok, Batam and the Riau Islands. Bali is popular with expatriates for its international hospitality scene, beaches and active social lifestyle, while Jakarta provides major commercial opportunities but a busier urban environment. Indonesian culture emphasizes courtesy, community, family and respect for religious traditions; dress and conduct should be adapted locally. Living costs vary considerably, with resort areas often more expensive. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and stay permit, commonly arranged through the hiring company. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, housing, flights, insurance, tax, probation terms and permit support. Healthcare and schooling options are strongest in major cities and established expatriate areas.
