Destination Guide

Penang Island is one of Malaysia’s most attractive locations for hospitality and engineering professionals. Jobs are available in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, healthcare, property management, technology and manufacturing, with additional opportunities in nearby mainland Penang. George Town combines colonial architecture, street art and a strong multicultural heritage shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and Eurasian communities. Life is generally relaxed, with excellent food, beaches, shopping and outdoor activities, although traffic can be busy. Rental costs vary considerably; living outside the main tourist districts is usually more affordable. Malaysia’s climate is hot and humid year-round, with heavier rain during monsoon periods. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must meet immigration requirements before work begins. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, housing, healthcare, taxation and relocation support directly with Shangri-La.
