Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, engineering, facilities management, technology and finance. Its culture blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences, reflected in local festivals, food, languages and neighbourhoods. Life is convenient and generally safe, with excellent public transport, healthcare and international amenities, although rent and everyday expenses can be high. Hotel employees commonly work rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation; approval is handled through Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. Before relocating, arrange an employment contract, valid passport, medical checks if required and suitable accommodation. Areas near MRT stations are practical for commuting, while central and eastern districts offer varied dining and leisure options.
