Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, sustainability, tourism, retail, technology and shared services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Johor and Sabah. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous cultures, with diverse food, festivals and generally welcoming communities. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living to relaxed coastal and island environments; costs are usually lower than in Singapore or many Western countries, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular resort areas can be more expensive. Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah provide attractive leisure options, but employment may be seasonal in resort locations. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit, and the employer must meet Malaysian immigration requirements before employment begins. Candidates should confirm contract terms, accommodation, medical coverage, tax obligations and relocation support. English is widely used in business, while Malay is the national language.
