Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, aviation and business services. Popular island and coastal destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Perhentian, Redang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak. Langkawi is relaxed and resort-focused, while Penang combines heritage, food culture and urban living. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, though resort islands can be more expensive and seasonal. Employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass before starting work, and the company usually handles the application. Qualifications, passport validity, medical checks and an approved employment contract may be required. Relocation is easier when accommodation, transport, insurance and service-charge arrangements are confirmed in writing. Weather is tropical year-round, with monsoon conditions varying by coast.
