Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with many outlying islands and excellent public transport. Hospitality, tourism, finance, retail, aviation, logistics, technology and professional services provide major employment opportunities. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and late-night dining to beaches, hiking trails and quieter island communities. Foreign nationals normally need an approved employment visa before starting work, and the employer generally sponsors the application. New arrivals should budget carefully because rent is high, arrange accommodation near reliable transport and prepare documents such as a passport, employment contract, qualifications and background checks.
