Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality, tourism, retail, food and beverage, sales and marketing opportunities, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and hotels. Lifestyle varies from fast-paced city living to relaxed coastal and island communities, with generally affordable food, transport and accommodation compared with many international destinations. Foreign employees normally need an approved employment pass sponsored by the employer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and job level. Employers usually handle much of the application process, but passports, qualifications, medical checks and certified documents may be required. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules with the Malaysian embassy and prospective employer. Relocation planning should include housing, insurance, banking, local transport and adaptation to Malaysia’s warm, humid climate.
