Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, private clubs, tourism, retail and corporate services, with international brands and a fast-paced service culture. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hospitality and business; Mandarin is increasingly useful. Daily life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, extensive shopping and dining, hiking trails, beaches and outlying islands. Housing is expensive, so candidates should compare staff accommodation, housing allowances and commuting costs before relocating. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, usually under the General Employment Policy, and must receive approval before starting work. Employers normally provide guidance on documentation, medical checks and onboarding. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate, humid summers and mild winters. New arrivals should budget carefully, arrange health coverage, and confirm contract terms, working hours and visa sponsorship with Shangri-La.
