Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers extensive opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and professional services. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient public transport and a fast-paced working style. Employees can enjoy excellent food, shopping, hiking, beaches and vibrant nightlife, although housing is expensive and living space is often limited. The territory is highly urban, with Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories connected by MTR, buses and ferries. Overseas professionals normally need an appropriate employment visa, commonly sponsored by the employer, and must show a confirmed job, suitable qualifications or experience and a salary meeting immigration expectations. Dependants may generally apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a Hong Kong identity card, banking and healthcare access. Cantonese is valuable for guest-facing roles, while English and Mandarin are widely used in hotels.
