Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and professional services. The city blends Chinese traditions with international influences, with Cantonese, English and Mandarin widely used. Life is energetic and convenient: public transport is excellent, housing is expensive, and long working hours can be common in hospitality. Residents enjoy diverse food, shopping, hiking, beaches and vibrant neighbourhoods across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Overseas candidates generally need an employment visa arranged through a sponsoring employer before starting work. Applicants normally provide qualifications, experience, a signed employment contract and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Dependants may qualify for dependent visas. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, transport and daily expenses, and confirm accommodation, service charge, medical coverage, working hours and visa support with Shangri-La before relocating.
