Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics, and tourism. Its culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, festivals, excellent food, and a fast-paced working style. Public transport is highly efficient, and living without a car is easy, although accommodation can be expensive and space is limited. Popular areas include Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories, with ferries and hiking trails offering a welcome escape from the city. Overseas workers generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer before starting work; the employer normally supports the application. Applicants should prepare qualifications, references, a valid passport, and proof of employment. Budget carefully for rent, deposits, transport, meals, and medical coverage. Cantonese is valuable for daily life, while English is widely used in hotels and professional workplaces.
