Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, finance, retail, logistics, technology and professional services. The culture combines Chinese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hospitality. Life is energetic and urban, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails and islands accessible by ferry. Accommodation can be expensive, especially in central districts, so many employees live in areas such as Kowloon, the New Territories or Hong Kong Island outside core business zones. Overseas workers generally need an approved employment visa before starting work, normally sponsored by the employer, and must meet immigration and qualification requirements. Employers may assist with documentation, but relocation costs and accommodation should be confirmed in the contract. New arrivals should arrange housing, local banking, health coverage and an identity card after arrival.
