Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, international financial centre with strong opportunities in banking, asset management, fintech, compliance, risk, technology, consulting, and professional services. Its culture blends Cantonese and wider Chinese traditions with substantial international influence; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable socially. The lifestyle is fast-paced, convenient, and urban, with excellent public transport, diverse restaurants, shopping, nightlife, beaches, hiking, and nearby islands. Housing is expensive, particularly in central districts, although efficient transport allows commuting from areas such as Kowloon or the New Territories. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, and applicants must demonstrate suitable qualifications, experience, and a genuine role. Dependants may usually apply for dependent visas. Relocating candidates should budget for accommodation deposits, healthcare, schooling if relevant, and international tax advice. Hong Kong is not a single island, but includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and numerous outlying islands.
