Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in investment banking, fintech, software engineering, data, cybersecurity, risk, accounting and professional services. The city has a fast-paced, international work culture, with English widely used in offices alongside Cantonese and Mandarin. Life is convenient, with efficient public transport, extensive shopping, diverse restaurants and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and nearby islands. Housing is expensive, particularly in central districts, while areas such as Kowloon, the New Territories and Lantau can offer more space. Overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applicants must normally demonstrate a relevant qualification or experience and a role that cannot easily be filled locally. Dependants may usually accompany approved visa holders. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health insurance, banking and tax registration, and understand Hong Kong employment regulations before relocating.
