Destination Guide

The Maldives offers employment mainly in luxury resorts, hospitality, food and beverage, marine activities, construction, transport, healthcare and support services. Resort islands provide a very different lifestyle from local islands and Malé: employees commonly live in shared staff accommodation, receive meals and spend free time around beaches, recreation areas and staff facilities. Maldivian culture is shaped by Islam, close family communities, seafood, island traditions and respectful dress and behavior. Alcohol is generally restricted to licensed resort islands. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and valid entry authorization; the hiring company usually coordinates the application, medical checks and travel arrangements. Relocation requires a valid passport, employment contract, health documents and patience with tropical weather and limited shopping or entertainment outside the resort. Flights, accommodation, meals, insurance and leave benefits vary by employer and should be confirmed before accepting an offer.
