Destination Guide

Qatar is a peninsula rather than an island, with Doha as its main employment and cultural center. Hospitality opportunities are available in luxury hotels, restaurants, resorts, catering companies, and event venues, while other sectors include aviation, construction, healthcare, retail, finance, and technology. The culture blends traditional Gulf customs with a large international expatriate community. Modest dress, respect for Islam, and awareness of Ramadan practices are important. Doha offers modern shopping malls, museums, beaches, desert excursions, international restaurants, and a generally comfortable urban lifestyle, although summers are extremely hot. Most overseas workers need an employer-sponsored work visa and residence permit; the employer normally handles the application, medical checks, and official processing. Before relocating, confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, working hours, gratuity, leave, and contract terms. Qatar has no personal income tax on employment salaries, but living costs can be significant.
