Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a modern Gulf federation rather than an island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest hospitality, tourism, retail, aviation and business job markets. The culture combines Islamic traditions, Emirati heritage and a highly international population, so respectful dress, punctuality and awareness of local customs are important. Dubai offers beaches, shopping, restaurants, desert activities and a lively expatriate lifestyle, although summer heat can be intense and living costs are high. Employers usually sponsor a work visa, residence permit, medical examination and Emirates ID for successful overseas hires. Do not work on a tourist visa. Confirm whether accommodation, transport, meals, insurance, flights and annual leave are included before accepting an offer. New arrivals should budget for deposits and initial expenses, and verify the contract through official UAE channels or the employer’s HR department.
