Destination Guide

The Maldives offers hospitality opportunities mainly in resorts, including spa therapy, food and beverage, housekeeping, diving, watersports, engineering, finance, and guest services. Resort employment is often based on a live-in island environment, with accommodation, meals, uniforms, and transport commonly included. Maldivian culture combines Islamic traditions, South Asian influences, fishing heritage, and a strong sense of community. Alcohol is restricted on inhabited local islands but available at licensed resorts. Life can be peaceful and scenic, though isolated, with limited shopping and entertainment away from larger islands. Most international employees need an employer-sponsored work permit and must complete medical and immigration procedures before or after arrival. Employers usually arrange airport transfers and relocation details. Candidates should confirm contract length, salary, service charge, leave, insurance, flights, internet access, and accommodation conditions before accepting an offer. Malé provides more urban services, while resort islands offer quieter surroundings and a highly international workplace.
