Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, healthcare, construction, agriculture, technology and customer service. Hospitality jobs are common in major cities, coastal resorts and regional areas, although competition can be high. Australian workplace culture is generally friendly, direct and informal, with emphasis on punctuality, safety, teamwork and equal treatment. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to relaxed coastal or regional communities; living costs, especially rent, can be high in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Depending on nationality and circumstances, visitors may use a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa, student visa or skilled migration pathway. Check eligibility, work limits and occupation requirements with the Australian Department of Home Affairs. New arrivals should arrange a tax file number, bank account, Medicare eligibility where applicable and suitable accommodation. Ipswich is a more affordable regional city within commuting distance of Brisbane.
