Destination Guide

Malaysia is not one island but a country divided between Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo, with popular destinations including Langkawi, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. Job opportunities are strongest in Kuala Lumpur and nearby industrial areas, particularly in technology services, manufacturing, engineering, shared services, electronics and logistics. Malaysian workplaces are generally multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences. English is widely used in professional settings, while Malay is the national language. Living costs are moderate compared with many major international cities, although Kuala Lumpur rents vary by location. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; the company usually manages the application and immigration process. Candidates should confirm eligibility, medical requirements, dependants' passes and tax obligations before relocating. Malaysia offers good food, warm weather, modern cities and easy regional travel, but traffic, humidity and occasional monsoon disruption should be considered.
