Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, while Sabah and Sarawak provide growing digital, engineering and services markets. Penang is known for electronics, shared services and a relaxed island lifestyle; Langkawi is quieter and tourism-focused, while parts of Borneo offer nature, lower-density living and emerging business activity. Malaysian culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in professional workplaces. Living costs are generally moderate, although Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas can be more expensive. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the hiring company normally handles the application. Before relocating, check passport, medical, dependent and tax requirements, arrange health insurance and research housing and transport. Kuala Lumpur is best for corporate careers, while Penang may suit professionals seeking a balance between technology work and coastal living.
