Destination Guide

Malaysia is not a single island destination, but it offers diverse places to live and work. Kuala Lumpur is the main technology and consulting hub, with the widest range of professional opportunities, international schools and modern transport. Penang combines a growing technology sector with heritage areas, beaches and a more relaxed lifestyle. Langkawi and Sabah or Sarawak are better suited to tourism, environmental, digital and regional development work than corporate headquarters. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Living costs are moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur rents are higher. Foreign professionals usually need an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; the company normally handles the application. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules, healthcare coverage, tax obligations and relocation support before accepting an offer.
