Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and textiles, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare, and education. The island has a diverse culture shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and other communities, with Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity widely practised. Life combines busy urban centres with quieter coastal, hill-country, and rural areas. Colombo is the main commercial hub and generally offers the broadest employment options, while living costs are lower outside the capital. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence authorisation before starting work; employers usually support the application, and requirements can change, so official immigration guidance should be checked. Internships may require separate approval and are often arranged through the employer or educational institution. Sri Lanka has tropical weather, affordable local food, improving transport, and strong opportunities to experience beaches, wildlife, history, and tea-country landscapes.
