Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, IT, tourism, logistics, finance, engineering, education, and expanding technology and business-service sectors. Colombo and nearby areas provide the broadest employment options, while Kandy, Galle, and industrial zones also support manufacturing and tourism jobs. The culture combines South Asian traditions with strong influences from Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity; people generally value hospitality, family, and respectful communication. Living costs are moderate compared with many international destinations, although Colombo housing and imported goods are more expensive. The island offers beaches, mountains, wildlife, and a relaxed lifestyle, but traffic, humidity, and occasional power or transport disruptions should be considered. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa sponsored or supported by an employer; tourists cannot legally work. Interns should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, insurance, tax, and relocation arrangements with MAS before travelling.
