Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare, and business services. Colombo is the main commercial center, while areas such as Katunayake, Biyagama, Kandy, and Galle also have important employers. The country has a warm tropical climate, affordable living costs compared with many international destinations, and a culture shaped by Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences. Daily life combines busy urban areas with beaches, mountains, tea country, wildlife, and strong family and community traditions. English is widely used in professional settings, although Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa sponsored or supported by an employer; tourist status does not permit regular employment. Relocating employees should arrange accommodation, health insurance, transport, and document verification before arrival. Visa rules can change, so confirmation from Sri Lankan authorities or the employer is recommended.
