Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, technology, tourism, logistics, finance, engineering, healthcare, education, and outsourcing. The island has a diverse culture shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial traditions, with Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, and Christian communities. Life is generally social and family-oriented, with warm weather, affordable local food, beaches, mountains, wildlife, and historic cities. Colombo provides the broadest employment market and modern services, while industrial zones and factories are located in several other regions. Foreign nationals normally need an employment or residence visa arranged with employer sponsorship; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. The process may require an employment contract, passport, qualifications, medical documents, and government approval. Relocating employees should budget for housing, transport, healthcare, and school fees if applicable. Learning basic Sinhala or Tamil, respecting local customs, and checking current immigration rules before travel are recommended.
