The Product Development Engineer is expected to support the design, development and improvement of apparel products from concept through production. Typical requirements include a degree or diploma in apparel, textile, manufacturing or mechanical engineering, practical knowledge of product development and garment construction, and familiarity with quality, costing and production processes. Experience with technical specifications, sample evaluation, measurements, materials and cross-functional coordination is valuable. The candidate should be analytical, detail-oriented and comfortable working with designers, merchandisers, suppliers and manufacturing teams. Strong communication, problem-solving, time management and computer skills are expected, along with the ability to meet deadlines and identify practical, cost-effective improvements.
