Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers engineering and manufacturing opportunities in apparel, textiles, food processing, electronics, logistics, construction, tourism, and renewable energy. Colombo, Katunayake, Biyagama, and regional industrial zones are the main employment centres. The country has a warm tropical climate, welcoming communities, strong family traditions, and a rich mix of Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial cultural influences. Living costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although Colombo accommodation can be relatively expensive. Public transport is affordable, while private transport provides greater convenience. Foreign employees normally need an employment visa or residence approval arranged with support from the sponsoring company; working without the correct authorization is not permitted. Candidates should confirm qualifications, benefits, accommodation, taxation, medical coverage, and relocation assistance before accepting an offer. English is widely used in professional workplaces, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages.
