Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, tourism, logistics, finance, engineering, healthcare, and business services, with Colombo and nearby industrial zones providing the widest choice. The island has a warm tropical climate, relatively affordable living costs, and a lifestyle combining busy urban areas with beaches, mountains, wildlife, and historic cities. Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages, while English is widely used in business and education. Foreign nationals generally need an appropriate employment visa or residence permission before working; an employer normally supports the application, and tourist status should not be used for employment. Interns should confirm whether sponsorship, accommodation, insurance, and allowances are provided. Colombo is the main commercial center, while manufacturing roles may be located outside the capital. Public transport is inexpensive, though traffic can be heavy. Research local regulations and workplace conditions before relocating.
