Destination Guide

Offshore jobs are often organized through island hubs such as Malta, Cyprus, Trinidad, the Caribbean, Mauritius or Southeast Asian bases, although the exact location depends on the project. Opportunities include rig operations, hook-up and commissioning, marine support, logistics, maintenance, HSE and catering. Island communities are usually multicultural, relaxed and strongly connected to maritime and energy industries. Life may involve warm weather, higher imported-goods costs and limited services outside major towns. Offshore workers commonly spend weeks at sea followed by paid leave ashore. Visa and relocation rules depend on nationality, employer and the country of embarkation; an offshore work permit, transit visa, medical clearance, seaman’s book or Schengen visa may be required. Confirm requirements with the employer before travel, and check tax residency, accommodation, flights, vaccinations, insurance and emergency support.
