Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers extensive opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism and international business, with experienced chefs in particularly strong demand. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, global influences, fast-paced city life and a strong food culture. Residents enjoy excellent public transport, diverse dining, shopping, hiking trails, beaches and vibrant arts and entertainment, although housing and daily expenses can be high. Most overseas professionals require an employment visa, commonly sponsored by the employer under the General Employment Policy; applicants normally need a confirmed job, relevant qualifications or experience and proof that the role cannot be easily filled locally. Hong Kong permanent residents and certain passport holders have different arrangements. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health coverage, banking and tax registration. A practical relocation plan should consider commuting distance, rental costs, school needs and the demands of hospitality shift work.
