Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, events, finance, technology, healthcare and education. The culture is multicultural, combining Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, with English widely used at work. Lifestyle benefits include excellent public transport, modern healthcare, safe neighbourhoods, diverse food, shopping, beaches and efficient city services. Housing can be expensive, especially in central areas, so many newcomers rent rooms or share apartments. International employees generally need employer sponsorship for a work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, and approval depends on qualifications, salary and government criteria. Employers normally guide candidates through the application process. Singapore has a hot, humid climate throughout the year, with frequent rain. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, transport, healthcare, deposits and daily expenses before relocating.
