Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. Hospitality jobs are concentrated in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, airport areas and resort districts. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; politeness, punctuality and efficient service are highly valued. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, varied food, shopping, hiking trails and beaches, though housing can be expensive and living space limited. Most foreign employees need a work visa arranged through an employer, commonly under the General Employment Policy, while eligible Mainland Chinese applicants follow separate entry arrangements. A valid employment contract, suitable qualifications and proof of a genuine job are normally required. Relocating workers should budget for deposits, transport and accommodation, and confirm whether the employer provides housing, meals, medical cover or relocation assistance.
