Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotel revenue management, reservations, sales, resorts, food and beverage, wellness and tourism, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the islands of Sabah and Sarawak. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in hospitality workplaces. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many international destinations, although Kuala Lumpur and popular resort islands can be more expensive. Malaysia’s islands provide beaches, diving, rainforest and a relaxed outdoor lifestyle, while cities offer modern conveniences and excellent food. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass arranged and sponsored by the employer before starting work. Requirements depend on nationality, salary and role, and approval is handled through Malaysian immigration authorities. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical coverage, tax treatment and relocation support directly with Shangri-La.
