Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and other resort destinations, especially in food and beverage, rooms, events, wellness, and guest services. Penang combines heritage culture, excellent food, and an active urban lifestyle, while Langkawi offers beaches, nature, island activities, and a quieter resort environment. Malaysian culture is diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, and international influences. Living costs are moderate, although popular resort islands can be more expensive for accommodation. Employers may provide staff housing, meals, transport, or medical benefits, depending on the property. Foreign employees normally require an employment pass arranged and sponsored by the employer before starting work. Candidates should confirm work-permit eligibility, contract terms, accommodation, insurance, taxes, and relocation costs directly with Shangri-La. English is widely used in hotels, while Malay is the national language.
