Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and shared services. Popular island and coastal destinations include Penang, Langkawi, Tioman, Redang, Sabah and Sarawak, while Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest corporate job market. Life varies from busy urban living to a slower beach lifestyle, with generally affordable food, extensive public transport in major cities and a multicultural society shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions. English is widely used in hospitality, although Malay is the national language. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass arranged before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Relocating staff should confirm accommodation, medical insurance, tax registration and dependent arrangements with the employer. Island locations may have fewer services and seasonal hiring patterns, but offer beaches, diving, outdoor activities and a relaxed community atmosphere.
