Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, communications, retail, education, technology and marine-related businesses. Island-based options are concentrated in Langkawi, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak, while Kuala Lumpur and major mainland cities provide the broadest professional market. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to relaxed beaches, tropical weather, outdoor activities and comparatively affordable food and housing. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit, such as an Employment Pass, and should not begin work before approval. Employers usually handle much of the application, although requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Relocation planning should include accommodation, insurance, banking, transport and healthcare. Langkawi suits resort living, Penang combines heritage and urban amenities, and Sabah offers strong nature and marine-tourism appeal.
